Part One: Why Grant Writing Is More Than Writing
The research, planning, and prep work that make the writing possible.
Another two-parter! Grants are so complex, I struggle to put my thoughts into just one newsletter, so you get another two-parter. I actually wrote a course to put everything in a linear and understandable format, but haven’t released it yet. If that’s of interest let me know!
You can be the best writer in the world and still lose a grant if the foundations aren’t right.
Most people think grant writing is about putting the right words on the page. But in reality, it’s more like the final step (we won’t talk about acquitting right now).
If you start at the grant, you’re almost guaranteed to get stuck or put together a really poor pitch. You’re not just writing. You’re building a case.
And unless you’ve done that strategic thinking first, no amount of wordsmithing will save a weak application.
